Boden

Boden is a small town, housing the largest garrison of the Swedish Army. It is a railway junction where northern Line (Norrabanan) met with the Ore Line (Malmbanan). It offers town life with services and outdoorsy lifestyle for its inhabitants.

Luleå

Luleå is the Capital of Norrbotten county. It is an educational centre with more than 10 schools offering professional training. Industries include iron smelting, shipbuilding, engineering, and lumbering. The city’s port, Svartöstaden is one of Sweden’s largest export harbours.

Sea Lapland

Sea Lapland is the most southwest region of Finnish Lapland. The Sea Lapland consists of Tornio, Kemi, Keminmaa, Simo and Tervola. In the area flow three big rivers into the Bothnian Bay. Population is around 60.000 inhabitants. Tourism is very important in the area.

Skellefteå

Skellefteå is the second largest city in Västerbotten. The city is a well-known ice hockey town. It will become the home of a massive battery plant made by Northvolt by circa 2023. The largest private employer in Skellefteå is the mining company Boliden AB, with about 1,200 employees. The mine's copper ore contains particles of gold, silver and platinum.

Haparanda

Located on the border between Sweden and Finland, Haparanda is truly a multilingual and multicultural town. The cultural unity with Tornio has remained throughout centuries. The area has even its own language: meaänkieli, a minoríty language in Sweden.

Oulu

Oulu, in Swedish Uleåborg, is at the mouth of the Oulu River. It was one of Finland’s major commercial centres in the 19th century, exporting of wood tar. The city has a university (founded 1959) and a university hospital. At the turn of the 21st century, Oulu became a centre for information technology.

Raahe

Raahe is a coastal town on the Bothnian Bay, approximately 75 kilometres south of the City of Oulu. Raahe’s industrial life is mainly focused on the steel industry; SSAB Europe's Raahe works is the largest steel factory in the Nordic Countries. Old Raahe is one of the best preserved wooden towns of 19th century Finland.

Tornio

Tornio is situated on the mouth of the Tornio river at the bottom of the Bothnian Bay. It is the longest free-flowing, unharnessed river in Europe. A turning point in the city’s history occurred in 1809, when the new national border was drawn on the Tornio river. The river separated everything from land and water bodies to families and parishes. Today, the two neighbors form the twin city of TornioHaparanda.
